Jane McNamara Christenson
With over two decades of leadership experience in local government, Jane most recently served as Deputy City Manager at the City of Alexandria, and is excited to join the Agenda: Alexandria Board. In her City role, she collaborated with the City’s executive management team to oversee operations in data analytics, finance, IT, and the Office of Management & Budget. Her responsibilities included advancing labor relations, land use planning, and zoning initiatives to foster community engagement, as well as building innovation partnerships to enhance service delivery and workforce development. While she recently resigned due to family eldercare duties, she plans to return to this work.
Prior to returning home to the DC area, Jane served as County Executive Officer for Placer County, CA, where she led a 3,000-employee organization, managed multi-disciplinary service delivery for a diverse population, and drove strategic initiatives alongside the Board of Supervisors. She also served previously as the Deputy City Administrator for the City of Redmond, Washington, focusing on City operations, fiscal-land use linkages, and academic/business/civic partnerships on economic/workforce development. Her career includes extensive work leading stakeholder groups and community interviews to advance effective governance, innovative solutions, and impactful community development. She is an alumna of both Cornell University and UCLA’s Luskin School for Public Affairs.
