Bill Dickinson
Bill and his wife, Linda, have lived in Alexandria for nearly 50 years mostly in the Seminary Hill neighborhood. During that time, Bill has participated in many civic and neighborhood activities and on numerous City Boards, school and study groups, He coached youth soccer, served as a Boy Scout Master (Troop 135), advocated for open-space preservation and environmental protection, organized opposition to the Bluestone connector, and was a longtime member and later president of the Seminary Hill Association.
He served as a member and chair of NOVA Parks, board member of AlexRenew, member of the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation, and Virginia’s representative to the Chesapeake Bay Citizens Advisory Committee. He has been involved with the Alexandria Historical Society, serving as its chair for three years. He continues research on the domestic slave trade and other civil war subjects. He was instrumental in the City’s acquisition of Freedom House and the Murray-Dick-Fawcett Property for which he received the Ben Brenman Archeology Award.
Before retiring from federal career service, he held various analytical and managerial positions, primarily at the Office of Management and Budget and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve, including shipboard service in the Arctic and Vietnam and is a member of VFW Post 609, the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the US, and the Civil War Roundtable of DC.
