Back to School: Learning in the new “normal”

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of our society, but the impact on our schools is particularly stark. The pressure to return to “normal” is high, but what will the new normal look like? From classroom crowding to social distancing, Alexandria schools are navigating a number of new opportunities and challenges. As we go back to school, Agenda Alexandria will explore topics such as “what do we really need to do in order to Open ACPS?,” “how will we keep students safe while also giving them a rich education?,” ”how can we support both students and teachers as we make up for the last 16 months of learning loss?,” and “What is the current state of the relationship between the City and ACPS?”

Panelists:

  • Sindy Carballo Garcia, Youth Organizer, Tenants and Workers United
  • Kathryn Grassmeyer PT/DPT, Organizer, Open ACPS
  • Dr. Stacey Hardy-Chandler, Director of The Center for Children & Families, City of Alexandria Department of Community & Human Services
  • Dr. Terri H. Mozingo, Chief of Teaching, Learning & Leadership, ACPS
  • Moderator: Chris Lewis, Agenda Alexandria Board Member
