Elections in Alexandria
Alexandria’s only organization dedicated to examining local issues from a variety of viewpoints will be focusing on elections for its May program. From ranked-choice voting to liquor at the polls, the history of voting in Alexandria is democracy in action or sometimes inaction. Agenda Alexandria will examine the past, present and future of how we vote and why with an all-star panel of experts:
Led by Moderator Michael Pope, we’ll examine the history of the Common Council and the Board of Alderman. We’ll take a look at some of the most significant elections in Virginia and voting trends. And we’ll even explain how ranked-choice voting would split a single transferable vote six ways in City Council election.
Because this is the last panel discussion of the 2024-2025 season, we will be saying goodbye to outgoing board members and welcoming new members with an election. Agenda Alexandria members will be voting on a slate of new Board members and the Officers for Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary.
WHEN: 7 pm on Monday, May 19, 2025. (Doors Open 6:30 pm)
WHERE: Virginia Theological Seminary, The Lettie Pate Evans Room (LPER) and it is located in the lower level of the Addison Academic Building #17 at 3630 Bishop Walker Circle, Alexandria VA. Open parking.
In addition to the opportunity to learn more about a variety of issues throughout the year, Agenda Alexandria program events provide the rare opportunity to mix and mingle with fellow city residents from a variety of political and issues viewpoints. The programs are typically presented in front of a live audience, preceded by a reception with the opportunity to meet and network with other members, attendees, as well as guest panelists. Membership is open to the public for an annual membership fee.
